Hey, look – I cleaned off my kitchen table…
- strawberries
- baby spinach
- yogurt
- greens?
- granola
- arugula
- eggs
- baby red potatoes
- oyster mushrooms
- sweet onion
- broccoli
And here’s what I got from the store…
- whole wheat sourdough bread
- shrimp (just to have for fried rice, pad thai, and other stuff)
- strawberries
Strawberries
I’ve been buying extra strawberries with the idea that I’ll freeze lots of strawberries and have them year round. But however many strawberries I buy and freeze, that’s how many we go through in a week. I guess that’s eating seasonally: gorge for a limited time and then look forward to next year.
Non-produce report
The yogurt and granola are great separate but even better together. Yum. And the bread is completely as good as it looks. All chewy and staff-of-lifey. I cut the loaf in half and froze one half just in case we didn’t get through it fast enough. But the way we’re chowing down, that’s not going to be a problem.
This week’s plans
Pistachio-encrusted catfish with steamed broccoli. The catfish is from Farmers’ Fresh. I defrosted a pound and used some of it for pad thai. So we’ve got to eat the rest up soon.
Burgers with sweet onions. I should say with salad, but usually when Chris and I eat burgers, we just eat burgers. (I’ll make us a big salad for another meal and even it all out.) I bought some ground beef from Farmers’ Fresh, but I froze the whole pound and a quarter. I’ll have to find out whether it’s okay to defrost and refreeze some of it. Otherwise, I’ll have to make something else beefy.
Casserole? Instead of a stir-fry, maybe I’ll make some kind of casserole with the mushrooms, some of the broccoli, and ground beef. And Worchestershire sauce. Hmm… I could add the potatoes, too, but I’d really rather eat them in something like…
Roasted potatoes and arugula-spinach salad. Not sure what I’ll roast the potatoes with yet. I’ve got some Romano cheese. Need some herbs. Oh, how I wish I’d ordered some blue cheese from Farmers’ Fresh! I may have to get some blue from another store. It’ll go nice with the potatoes and the salad.
Mystery greens with raisins and pine nuts. It made me laugh to get my CSA box and think, “Darn – no kale!” Chris and I sure have come a long way on our kale journey. Our box this week listed lettuce, but we got some sort of mild-tasting green instead. So I’m going to pretend it’s kale and see what happens.
